Girls Giving Grants, the youth extension of Impact Austin, is looking for young women in 8th through 12th grade who want to participate in something really meaningful for their community, who enjoy working with others to accomplish great things, and who can think with their heads and their hearts! You, along with other young women just like you, will help identify and evaluate needs that impact youth in our community and help decide which community program to give or "grant" your money to. The decision is completely up to your and your fellow members. You will meet twice a month on Sunday afternoons, from 2PM to 4PM. You should also plan to participate in other activities such as visiting or conducting a "site-visit" to a nonprofit finalist and attending the grant award event where you will announce which local nonprofit will receive your grant money.
As a Member of Girls Giving Grants, you will be able to show:
Respect for others
Leadership opportunities
Empathy for others--YOU can help others in need
Enthusiasm and passion
Teamwork
Creativity and Imagination
Knowledge of philanthropy
Knowledge of your community resources
Tenacity
Strong communication skills
Flexibility
Potential for personal growth
Patience
Membership Fee
There is a g3 membership fee of $100. All of the members will pool their $100 membership fees and add it to the grant award pot. The total pot of money will be awarded to a local nonprofit that you and the other g3 members decide upon. For example, let's say that g3 has 50 girls participating. That is $5000 (50 x $100) that you and the other g3 members can award to a local nonprofit organization! That money will mean so much to a nonprofit organization. Individually, you could never give so much money, but together you CAN and that is how you make an IMPACT in your community. That is "philanthropy!"
Time Commitment
You should expect your participation commitment to begin in October 2008, ending in April 2009, when you give your grant to a local nonprofit. We meet on Sunday afternoons, twice per month for 2 hours. You should strive to attend all our meetings, as it is in our meetings that you will forge friendships, learn about the needs in our community and develop critical thinking skills that will serve you throughout your lifetime. Each g3 member is allowed three (3) excused absences. After your third absence, you may be placed on probation and you may not be allowed to vote. We are all one team, with one mission...to select a grant finalist we can all be proud of. Each member's participation is crucial to our success. We need and value YOU, your opinions and thoughts and the only place to share those opinions and thoughts is at our meetings.
****You are eligible to receive up to 30 hours community service credit through your participation with Girls Giving Grants. You may submit all paperwork to the Director of Girls Giving Grants for completion.
